High School 6 v 6 Rules

ODSL High School Aged 6 v 6 Match Laws
All FIFA, US Soccer, US Youth Soccer, and ODSL Laws apply with these exceptions:

Rosters: The minimum number of players required on a team roster is seven (7). The maximum number of players allowed on a roster is eighteen (18). Up to four (4) guest players holding an approved and current VYSA travel player pass from the same club as the team may be listed on the match report card roster and play with the team, if the team has room on their roster. For example: if the team has sixteen (16) players on their official roster they may play two (2) guest players on the team that day. If a team has eighteen (18) players on their roster and four are not available on a specific game day, the team may scratch the unavailable players from the roster on the card and play up to four guest players. All teams must be registered as U15, U16, U17, U18, or U19 to be eligible. All players must be U14 or above to be eligible. Players are forbidden from playing with more than one team per day.  The ODSL rule concerning 40% of players being true to the age group that a team is register under does not apply to these teams.

Teams from ODSL member clubs holding a valid and current US Youth Soccer roster with another travel league are eligible to play in the ODSL High School 6 v 6 Division using that roster provided they are sitting out the current season in their league and meet all required criteria.

Field:
The field shall be a minimum of 70 yards long and a maximum of 95 yards long. The field shall be a minimum of 50 yards wide and a maximum of 60 yards wide.

Goals: The goals should be either 6’ x 18’ or 7’ by 21’ and must be the same size at each end of the field.

Time: The match shall consist of two 35 min halves.

Prior to the start of the match: The minimum number of players required to start a match is six (6). The referee must check player passes prior to each match. Players eligible for the match must be listed on the match report card and the card given to the referee prior to the match. Each player must have a valid and current VYSA player pass. If during a match the number of eligible players for a team drops below five (5) the match must be abandoned.

Referees: One referee will be assigned to each match.

Offside Rule: The offside rule will not be applied in this format. Because there is no offside rule, an offensive player may not enter an opponent’s penalty box until the ball crosses midfield. An offensive player may not enter the goal box until either the ball enters the goal box or a defensive player, other than the goalkeeper, enters the box. For an infraction of this rule, the restart will be an indirect free kick for the opposing team from the point where the ball was at the time of the infraction.

Substitutions: Unlimited substitutions may be made at any time, on the fly, by either team. All substitutes must enter the field at midfield. The player being substituted for must be with in 5 yards of the midfield point on the sideline before the substitute can enter the field. For an infraction of this rule, the restart will be an indirect free kick for the opposing team from the point where the ball was at the time of the infraction. Referee’s should be careful to apply the advantage rule on this infraction.

Free Kicks: All players must remain at least 5 yards from the ball during the taking of a free kick.

Penalty Kicks: Penalty kicks will be taken 10 yards from the goal line. All players except the kicker must remain 5 yards from the ball prior to the kick.

Goal Kicks:  In the taking of a goal kick the ball must touch another player or the ground before passing midfield. For infractions of this rule the restart shall be an indirect kick for the opposing team from the centerline of the field.

Goalkeepers: Once the goalkeeper picks up the ball they may not throw or punt the ball past the midfield centerline without it touching another player or the ground. Under the same rule they may not drop the ball to the ground and kick the ball past midfield without it touching another player or the ground. For infractions of this rule the restart shall be an indirect kick for the opposing team from the centerline of the field
